Chandigarh Announces Weekend Lockdown

Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Sh VP Singh Badnore on Friday presided over the war room meeting where it was decided that there will be a weekend lockdown in the city to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the city Chandigarh. The weekend lockdown in Chandigarh will start from 10 pm on April 16 (Friday) till 5 am on April 19 (Monday). 

In the meeting, the UT administrator, Sh. VP Singh Badnore expressed serious concern about the rising cases of Covid in the city and also the high fatality being observed. The meeting was attended by Sh. Manoj Parida, Adviser to the Administrator, and Sh. Arun Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary Home at Punjab Raj Bhawan UT Chandigarh.

UT administrator in his capacity as Chairperson, State Executive Committee, State Disaster Management Authority has issued the following directions on the WEEKEND LOCKDOWN in Chandigarh.

  • Chandigarh Weekend lockdown will be starting from 10 pm on 16 April (Friday) till 5 am on April 19 (Monday).
  • During the lockdown period, those who are going for appearing in the examination and those on examination duties will be allowed movement subjected to the production of admit/identity cards.
  • Home delivery of food will be allowed during the weekend lockdown.
  • All the testing centers/ vaccination centers/medical facilities/dispensaries will remain open during lockdown and people going there will be allowed.
  • On all days including the lockdown period, all interstate travelers will be allowed.
  • Weddings, that have already been fixed, will be allowed. The deputy commissioner will issue a pass.

Other restrictions after April 19 onwards

  • All spa and gymnasium will remain closed till 30 April.
  • The Libraries, Museums, Coaching Institutions/Centres, etc. will remain closed. However, online coaching will be permitted.
  • All government offices will function with 50% of staff till April 30.
  • Only with prior appointment, Public visitors will be allowed to meet the officers.
  • There will be a ban on cultural, social, political, religious events, etc.
  • In permitted functions, the existing limit of gatherings will be reduced to 100 (outdoor) and 50 (indoor).
  • Only with 50% Capacity, the transport buses will run.
  • There will be a screening of all visitors to Chandigarh City at the airport, railway station, ISBT, etc
