The announcement has come as a big relief to as many as 5,300 serving MNS officers and others who retired after the issue regarding the grant of cadre was raised in 1943.

Upon implementation of the order, a slew of benefits that the retired MNS officers are likely to pocket, inter alia, include the Ex-servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) and pension, besides other major benefits, such as Canteen facilities, ex-servicemen identity card, re-employment opportunities and their children getting preferences in admissions to colleges and universities as extended to their ex-servicemen counterparts.

Another significant benefit the serving MNS officers have been granted, permits the MNS officers of the rank of Brigadier and above to have star plates (identifying the rank) to affix on their official vehicles, which they were not entitled to earlier.

The year 2019 has ushered in hope and cheer for the MNS officer as the government has acceded to another core demand which sought substitute to their white-colored fatigue with the stripes to a coloured one having rank badges similar to that of an army officer. The issue that sparked in the 90s had sent alarm bells ringing among Army Medical Corps (AMC) officers. It was apprehended that the move would, surely than not, lead to command and control issues between the MNS and AMC officers. The MNS officers have the reason to rejoice!
