Punjab Cabinet Clears Decks for 464 Posts of Staff Nurses for Govt. Medical Colleges at Patiala and Amritsar
The Tribune Newspaper in its February 18, 2020, edition makes public the Punjab Cabinet decision giving its nod to the creation of 550 posts, among them 464 those of Nurses and 66 Paramedics/ Technicians for Government Medical Colleges at Patiala and Amritsar. This was disclosed to the newspaper by an official spokesperson after the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the other day.
The newspaper further said that the decision clearing the aforesaid posts was taken by the Punjab Cabinet with an intent to put back into use the medical machinery, equipment and other infra, which were lying ‘out of use’ for long due to shortage of staff, thus providing better healthcare services to the people, adding that the Cabinet cleared the proposal for the revival and filling in 464 vacant posts of Nurses, Technicians and others at Government Medical College, Patiala and Amritsar. The initiative would help provide the latest laboratory tests to the general public as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI).
It is pertinent to note that came after a high- powered committee headed by the Chairmanship of Adviser, Health and Medical Education, Punjab, Dr. K.K. Talwar, which was constituted for the revamp the medical colleges, recommended the creation/revival of the aforesaid posts to upgrade the facilities available at Government Medical Colleges at Patiala and Amritsar.
