Union Budget-2020: country’s youth gung-ho over key announcements made for them
A Business Today report dated February 1, 2020, said the Union Budget-2020 presented in Parliament had earmarked a whopping amount of Rs 99,300 crore for education sector for 2020-21 and Rs 3,000 crore for skill development, which has offered teeming million of students across the country a reason to rejoice.
The union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a slew of measures for the youth in the country, which would offer them access to quality education, health, hygiene and ample job opportunities. She further informed the House that a new education policy would be announced soon, which would prove to be a boon disguise for them.
The key announcements made for the youth of the country by the finance minister in her budget speech are being listed below.
Entrepreneurship proposals abound
The FM rolled out a proposal to set up an investment clearance cell for entrepreneurs to provide them pre-investment advisory, information related to land banks and facilitate clearances.
Apprenticeship embedded courses:
As many as 150 higher educational institutions will start apprenticeship embedded degree/diploma courses by March, 2021.
- Online education programmes for students: Providing degree educational programmes to the students belonging to the deprived sections of the society who do not have access to higher education.
Financing education infrastructure:
The finance minister said that steps would be taken to enable sourcing external commercial norrowings and FDI to be encouraged for financing education infrastructure.
Courses for nurse and para-medical staff:
The FM, further informed that a special bridge course for nurses, para medical staff and care givers to enhance their employability.
Internships for fresh engineers:
The government will also start a special program to urge urban local bodies across the country to provide internship opportunities to fresh engineers for a period of one year, the FM told in her budget speech.
Study in India programme:
Under this segment India-SAT is proposed to be held in Asian and some African countries for benchmarking foreign candidates who receive scholarships for studying in Indian higher education centres.
Setting up of National Police University and National Forensic Science University:
A National Police University and a National Forensic Science University have also been earmarked in the field of policing science, forensic science, cyber-forensics etc. in the budget proposals.
Courses for resident doctors:
The government will encourage bigger hospitals to offer resident doctors DNB/FNB (Diplomat of National Board/ Fellowship of National Board) courses under the National Board of Examinations policy.
