NORCET New Exam Pattern
NORCET Stage I: Preliminary |
NORCET Stage II: Mains |
i) The NORCET A candidate who passes the preliminary stage qualifying test will be permitted to appear in the Stage II: NORCET Main, subjected to the conditions mentioned below for the purpose of creating the list of candidates invited to Stage II. | A. Scheme of Examination
i. The examination will have duration of 90 minutes.
ii. The exam will consist of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) worth 100 marks. Each question will have four alternatives. The questions will cover the entire syllabus of Nursing courses taught at the essential qualification level. Emphasis will be on case scenario-based questions designed to assess nursing skills competency.
iii. For every incorrect answer, 1/3 of the marks for that question will be deducted as negative marking.
iv. In the Stage II of the NORCET Mains Examination, the qualifying marks will be as follows: 50% for UR/EWS candidates, 45% for OBC candidates, and 40% for SC & ST candidates. For Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWBD), an additional relaxation of 5% will be granted across all categories. This translates to qualifying marks of 45% for UR/EWS-PWBD, 40% for OBC-PWBD, and 35% for SC/ST-PWBD candidates. This relaxed standard, as per DOPT office memorandum No. 36035/02/2017-Estt (Res) dated 15.01.2018, applies universally to candidates with Benchmark Disabilities, regardless of their category. No further relaxation of standards will be given to candidates from any category.
v. If the Computer-Based Test (CBT) examination is conducted in multiple shifts, the normalization procedure outlined in the AIIMS notice No. 35/2023 dated 20.01.2023 will be applicable. |
ii) No merit or rank will be determined by preliminary results or for final selection. | b) Tie Case Resolution Procedure
When multiple candidates achieve the same score, ties will be settled in the following manner:
i) Initially, the candidates' birthdates will be considered, with older candidates receiving higher placement. ii) If the tie persists after applying the first criterion, the count of incorrect answers or negative marks will be taken into account. Candidates with fewer incorrect answers or negative marks will be given higher priority. The merit order will be adjusted accordingly in the NORCET Score. |
iii) The exam duration will be of 90 minutes. | Syllabus
The syllabus will be aligned with the educational qualifications and experience outlined in the Eligibility Section/Advertisement.
III. Compilation of Merit List & Seat Allotment (Based on Stage II NORCET Mains)
a) A merit list of successful candidates will be formulated based on their performance in the Computer-Based Test (CBT), following the qualifying criteria specified in Stage II NORCET Mains. In the event of a CBT being conducted in multiple shifts, the normalization procedure as detailed in AIIMS Notice No. 35/2023 dated 20.01.2023 will be applicable.
b) There might arise situations where a candidate qualifies but is not eligible for any or all participating Institutes/Hospitals.
c) Selections for choices will only be open to qualified and eligible candidates according to the pertinent eligibility criteria.
d) The seat allocation process will comprise a single round in general.
e) Seats will be allotted based on merit and the preferences stated by the candidate.
f) Candidates to whom a seat is allotted based on their preferences are required to accept the allocated seat, subject to meeting the applicable eligibility criteria. Therefore, candidates are advised to indicate choices only for seats they intend to join. Failure to take up an allocated seat for any reason(s) will result in mandatory disqualification for that particular NORCET.
g) AIIMS and all participating Institutes/Hospitals retain the discretion to utilize the NORCET merit list to fill any remaining advertised vacancies from the pool of remaining candidates in the merit list, particularly in cases where NORCET is scheduled to be conducted twice a year.
h) The validity of the NORCET Merit List is six months from its proclamation or until the announcement of the subsequent NORCET merit list, whichever comes earlier.
i) Comprehensive information regarding the allocation procedure will be shared following the announcement of the list of qualified candidates, in conjunction with the invitation for selecting choices. |
iv) There are 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) worth 100 marks in total. Each question is accompanied by four alternatives to choose from. Out of these, 20 questions pertain to General Knowledge & Aptitude, while the remaining 80 questions are based on the Nursing course syllabus taught at the essential qualification level.
v) Negative Marking: Each incorrect answer will result in a 1/3 mark deduction.
vi) The minimum required scores for the Stage I: NORCET Preliminary Examination is as follows: 50th percentile for UR/EWS, 45th percentile for OBC, and 40th percentile for SC & ST candidates. For individuals with PWBD, there will be an additional 5 percentile relaxation regardless of their category. Consequently, the qualifying marks for PWBD candidates are as follows: UR/EWS-PWBD-45th percentile, OBC-PWBD-40th percentile, and SC/ST-PWBD-35th percentile. According to the DOPT office memorandum No. 36035/02/2017-Estt (Res) dated 15.01.2018, the same adjusted criteria will be applicable to all candidates with Benchmark Disabilities, regardless of their categorization as Unreserved, SC, ST, or OBC. No further adjustments to the standards will be entertained or granted to any candidate from any category.
b. PREPARATION OF LIST OF QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR STAGE II
Applicants who meet the Stage I examination criteria, which is set at five times the total number of seats available in each category (UR, OBC, SC, ST, EWS), will be eligible to proceed to Stage II. This advancement is contingent upon fulfilling the subsequent conditions:
1. Stage II will include all PWBD candidates who meet the eligibility criteria. 2. Additionally, in instances where there are tied results among qualified candidates, those with the same scores as the last candidate selected for Stage II will also progress to Stage II. 3. It's possible that a candidate qualifies for the next stage but isn't invited to participate in the Stage II examination. |
