Registration Process for Pharmacists Trained Outside the EU/EEA

Pharmacists trained outside the EU/EEA must apply to have their qualifications recognized by the PSI through the Third Country Qualification Recognition (TCQR) process. This involves a four-stage evaluation:

Application Submission: Submit all necessary documents and applications to the PSI.

Equivalency Exam: Pass the equivalency examination to demonstrate knowledge and competence.

Adaptation Period: Complete a period of supervised practice in Ireland.

Professional Registration Examination (PRE): Successfully pass this final exam to register.

Structure of the Equivalency Examination

The equivalency exam consists of two parts:

Part One: MCQ Examination

This section includes 100 multiple-choice questions with a time allowance of 180 minutes, plus an additional 15 minutes for review.

Part Two: Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

The OSCE is a practical test that evaluates clinical and communication skills through 12 stations, including interactive and written tasks. Candidates receive specific instructions from examiners for each station.
